We are delighted to share the new sports programmes that our Upper Primary children and our adolescents are enjoying this year at Escola Pia Sarrià. Both programmes started in September. Each one gives students the chance to try a range of sports, build their skills step by step and above all enjoy moving together.
Multi-Sport Lab (ages 9 to 12)
This term, our Upper Primary children are exploring four sports: handball, basketball, football and athletics.
Each sport is taught over three sessions:
- Introduction and discovery: getting to know the equipment and trying out first skills through simple games.
- Development and application: building on those skills through challenges, circuits and team play.
- Fun and competitive experience: team games, small competitions and challenges that bring together what the children have learned. Whenever possible, the age groups are mixed.
Two coaches lead the sessions, and the children rotate between them every 30 minutes. One coach focuses on movement and basic skills, and the other on games and putting those skills into practice. Activities are offered at different levels so that every child can take part in their own way.

Sports (Adolescent programme)
Our adolescents have sports every Monday from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Over the year they will try eight sports: handball, basketball, football, athletics, rugby, table tennis, skateboarding and fitness.
In the first part of the year, students have two sessions of each sport. The first session is an introduction and the second develops their skills further. Once they have tried all eight, they go round again with one fun, competitive session per sport, including tournaments, circuits and team challenges. In total, this adds up to 36 hours of active sport across the year.

Our approach
Both programmes follow Montessori principles. Children learn mainly by doing, playing and experimenting, and they are encouraged to make their own decisions and work at their own pace. Competition is there to motivate and teach, so we value cooperation, effort, personal progress and respect for others as much as results. Our main hope is that every child finds something they enjoy and grows in confidence along the way.
