Good morning, families,
This October, our youngest children in Children's House have been exploring autumn and the Castanyada through books and songs. We have had a lovely time learning about the special features of this season. We discovered that some trees change the colour of their leaves and lose them, and we looked at typical autumn foods such as pumpkins, sweet potatoes and chestnuts. The colours of nature around us have changed with the weather and the temperature: now we see dark green, yellow, orange, red and brown leaves. It has been great fun discovering all this together.
This last week, we focused on the Castanyada celebration and prepared its traditional sweets, panellets. On Thursday, some of our secondary students ran a panellets workshop so the children could take them home and enjoy them with their families. It was wonderful to watch the children in our Children's House afternoon activities explore the ingredients with their hands and make their own panellets.
To get ready, we talked about Friday's celebration, when a castanyer (chestnut seller) would visit our school. He told us that, before he arrived, his cat Marrameu had hidden the chestnuts he was bringing for us, and that we needed to help him by completing some challenges to find them. Being such a clever school, we passed every challenge, and Marrameu brought back the chestnuts so we could all eat them together and share them with every class. We had a wonderful, lively time!
