Welcome

A word from our Head of School.

"Every child deserves the freedom to explore, the patience to grow at their own pace, and a community that believes in who they are becoming. That is what we strive for here, every single day."

New to Montessori?
Come and see it in action.

Montessori is best understood in person. Throughout the year we run events that are free and open to the public — the easiest first step for curious families, long before any application.

Online Information Sessions

Meet our leadership team from anywhere in the world, hear how BMS works from Nido to Secondary, and ask anything — held regularly through the year.

Open Days & Campus Tours

Walk the Mas Pomaret garden and our prepared environments, and see what students do in a Montessori classroom on an ordinary morning.

Montessori Talks & Workshops

Introductions to the Montessori approach for parents and educators — from the science of self-directed learning to Montessori at home.

Our Mission
"To provide an optimal environment for students to develop into prepared and fulfilled citizens of the world."

Our Vision

To be a reference for a holistic Montessori education programme for the future benefit of all humankind.

Our Story — a welcome from our founder

In 2015, Tim — then a trained Early Years Educator looking for the right environment for his own daughter — opened Nido Montessori Barcelona. What began with 8 children in a 130 m² space grew to over 40 within three years. Barcelona Montessori School opened in September 2020. Today we serve 195+ students and their families across two campuses, over 3,000 m² of installations and 6,000 m² of land.

"We can't prepare them for everything, but we can prepare them for anything."

— MICHAEL WASKI

Our Values

Five principles that guide everything we do.

Child-Centered Approach

Students at the centre of every decision, supporting every student's holistic development.

Respect

As a means for a peaceful world — for oneself, others, and the environment we share.

Responsibility

For oneself, for others, and for the wider world.

Belonging

Every staff member, student and parent shares a sense of connection and contribution to the BMS mission and vision. This is what makes BMS a community, not just a school.

Curious, Life-Long Learning

Practical and emotional skills that promote educational and social independence at every stage.

Our Programmes

A growing Montessori journey,
from 12 months to 14 years and beyond.

Life at BMS

A school that feels
like home.

Home is where you are respected and heard. Before the spaces, before the garden, what defines BMS is how students are treated: as whole people, listened to, taken seriously, with the school adapting to the student — never the other way around.

Our Values, Lived

Respected. Listened to. Known.

Every interaction at BMS starts from the same place: deep respect for the student. Adults speak to students at eye level, conflicts are resolved through dialogue, and each student's rhythm, interests and needs shape their path — because we adapt to the student, not the student to us.

Families tell us this is what they feel first when they walk in: students who are calm, confident, and genuinely heard.

Outdoor Learning

6,000 m² of garden — a curriculum in itself.

The Mas Pomaret is one of the oldest Masies in Sarrià. The remaining 6,000 m² of heritage garden surrounds our Early Years and Secondary campuses. Students grow food, observe nature, and spend real time outdoors every day — not as a break from learning, but as the deepest kind of it.

For our Secondary students, agriculture and land-based work are woven into the programme. There is no other urban school in Barcelona — or barely anywhere — with a space like this.

Community

A genuinely international, multilingual community.

English is the language that unites our community of 40+ nationalities. Spanish and Catalan are the second languages taught at school. Communication is natural, and we celebrate the richness that other languages and cultures bring to our understanding of the world.

BMS is a micro-society. Students learn to navigate complexity, resolve conflict, and support one another in a real, mixed-age community — skills that no classroom exercise can replace.

Nourishment

Real food, cooked fresh every day.

Our two in-house chefs prepare seasonal, nutritious meals in our own kitchen every day. Students eat together in a shared dining space — a Montessori practical life experience in itself. Menus accommodate all dietary needs and are developed in partnership with Ametller Origen.

Sitting down together to eat is not logistics. It is community.

The Adolescent Community

Secondary, the Montessori way.

Opened in September 2025 and growing to 18 cohort by cohort, our Adolescent programme is built around what this age actually needs: real work, real responsibility, and a real community. Students run enterprises, work the land in the Mas Pomaret garden, and connect their academic studies — guided by specialist teachers, including doctorate-level guides in Sciences and Humanities — to projects that matter.

It is the natural continuation of the Montessori journey: the same principles of independence and purpose, scaled to young adults preparing for life beyond school.

Why Barcelona Montessori

Built differently, by design.

BMS is not an adapted conventional school. Every element — from the environment to the staff ratios — is built from Montessori principles from the ground up.

01

Pioneer in Barcelona

Founded as Nido in 2015. Eleven years of accumulated expertise and community trust that no newer school can replicate.

02

Neuroscience-validated

Montessori's core principles — self-directed learning, mixed-age classes, intrinsic motivation — are now confirmed by leading brain development research. We teach the science and follow it.

03

Truly international

40+ nationalities in one community. English as the shared language; Spanish and Catalan used daily. Students grow up genuinely multilingual and culturally fluent.

04

Partnership with families

Classroom observations, parenting talks and daily records through My Montessori Journal — families see the learning as it happens and are part of the community.

05

Exceptional outdoor space

6,000 m² of heritage Masia garden in central Sarrià. Nature and daily outdoor life are not extras — they are curriculum, especially for the Secondary programme.

06

AMI-trained guides

Every classroom is led by certified Montessori guides, supported by subject specialists. Our team spans 20+ countries and holds 30+ Montessori diplomas.

Parent Testimonials

Hear from our community

I couldn't think of a better school for my kids. We wanted a school with a nurturing environment for our children to thrive in, and it was important for us to find a Montessori school. Both my 2yo and 5yo daughters enjoy going to school every morning. BMS was (and still is) our first and only choice!

I want to thank the entire BMS team and especially Tim and Abi in person for the incredible humanity and support showed to us and our children in this difficult time. Our two girls, ages five and ten, joined easily into the great prepared montessori space and found new friends! Muchísimas gracias!!

It's amazing to be part of this community. I always felt like I had a second chance to learn after starting over from scratch with my two girls. This is the best place to be for your children to learn and grow, and it's a beautiful space to be in. The staff is incredible and always makes you feel welcome.

Our 18 months old daughter started this year and the experience for both her and us has been amazing. The team looking after the little ones is very caring, patient and professional. They take their time for a smooth integration, and the Montessori pedagogy is well implemented. My daughter loves it there!

We've been a founding family since Nido was created and have continued with Tim and Abi at BMS. My son has been learning at the school for 7 years with the Montessori method, and my daughter for 5. We've watched the project grow and become what it is today—a school with strong values and incredibly professional people.
