This month we have been working on trees and their parts. First, we read a book about trees and how they can change or how different they can be. Then, I showed the children some cards showing the different parts of a tree: we looked at them, recited the names, and I gave them a little information about each part (e.g., roots are used to take up water and nutrients from the soil).
Later, we went to the garden to observe the trees we have at school and identify the different parts with the help of the cards. They also observed some of the trees and saw how different they are from one another. At the end, they drew the tree they liked best, using the cards or observing the trees in the garden for inspiration. The whole time, they were very focused and engaged. They enjoyed it very much.
